USC STEAM 2025: Student Outreach Webpage & Video

Problem

Our project aimed to redesign EAFab’s Student Outreach webpage with more updated program information, visuals, and new photo and video content.


Furthermore, the new photo and video content from specifically this year’s class needed to be pieced together into a video highlighting the building-brick LMF’s design process.


Process

We approached this task by looking into EAFab’s existing Student Outreach webpage and took note of the various aspects we wanted to keep, change, or add to the final design. Initial planning considered which school’s programs to display or highlight so that educators and partners could clearly see the range of outreach initiatives EAFab takes part in.


On the Outreach Video side of the project, we began by creating a rough storyboard of what all needed to be featured in the video. We then recorded those various parts of the project that we wanted included in the video. Following that, we went to Adobe Express to piece together and edit the various clips we obtained for a coherent video.


Limitations

Our original aim was to build the updated webpage directly into EAFab’s website software, utilizing its interactive tools and backend SEO to enhance visibility. As we transitioned to attempt to put our design into the software, however, we ran into persistent issues accessing EAFab’s site. Despite troubleshooting directly with the software, USC’s IT department and EAFab’s IT department, we were unable to resolve this issue. With this, the website design aspect of the project took a pivot to simply creating a mockup of the final design.


We turned to Canva, which easily enabled us to focus on the basic design aspects.

Through here, we were able to create numerous sections of the website and a layout

for each of them. A drawback of Canva, however, is that it lacks a lot of scrolling

effects and interactive elements that would otherwise be easy to implement on the website.


What We Learned

Throughout the process of our project, we gained numerous skills regarding both

video editing and webpage design. Prior to this project, we had limited exposure

working with professional cameras and editing software. While creating the

Outreach Video, we learned how to effectively operate the camera and edit the

footage in Adobe for a cohesive final video. Also, due to being unable to create the

final product on the website, we learned how to convey our final webpage design through

mockup strategies on Canva.


Solution

The outcome of our project is a Canva-based Student Outreach webpage mockup featuring various videos of our project integrated into the site, as well as external code to display scrolling effects that cannot be achieved directly on Canva. Our mockup features

all past and present EAFab outreach programs, while primarily highlighting the USC

STEAM LMF project. Accompanying the webpage is a video showcasing the process

USC students took part in making the LMF building-brick set.

Together, these deliverables give an easy pathway and direction for

implementing our ideas directly into the website, and giving a detailed video of our

entire project.
