Vacuum Tank Degassing (VTD) is a secondary‑metallurgy refining process used to produce clean steel by removing dissolved gases and adjusting the chemical composition of molten metal. During degassing, a ladle is placed inside a sealed vacuum tank, or drawn into a vacuum hood, where atmospheric pressure is significantly reduced. Under vacuum, steelmakers can efficiently remove entrained gases such as hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen, enabling the production of high‑quality specialty steel grades.
